After racist comments about Andi Peters, Miriam Margolyes moves on to “fat people” and “cripples”

On ITV’s This Morning, Miriam Margolyes made remarks about the presenter Andi Peters which were offensive, patronising, and racist.

Other than apologising, she has since reportedly said she took an interest in the lives of “black people, brown people, fat people and cripples”.

Margolyes enjoys offending people. After a career spent taking pride in provocation, she can hardly expect the benefit of the doubt now, despite her old age and the possibility her mental faculties might be deteriorating.

She chases attention through controversy and the desperate desire to be noticed. Rather than supplying the outrage such performances depend on, perhaps the answer is simpler: roll our eyes, stop paying attention and stop giving her the audience she so wants.
